Take a step at a time

homer.jpgThis is the first topic on the Understand the principals series which I introduced yesterday. Stay well alert and you might just learn a few tricks that took me years to figure out. The first topic is Take a step at the time.

When you first started blogging I’m sure you were in same way motivated by all the so called A list bloggers and their somewhat controversial success stories. For the first time, anyone with an internet connection and some free time could achieve stardom and riches while sitting in front of the computer. Although this does contain some truth, in reality most of it is fiction. Currently it is thought to exist some 100 million active blogs on the internet and out of all of those only a handful made it to the so called A list.

If you’re still motivated and want to give it a shot, please be my guest, but remember that it won’t be easy. Please understand that I can teach you how to make money with your blog although becoming an A list blogger is all up to you. The reason for this is that for a blog to reach such status you have to have some basic skills like, good written capabilities, creativity, inspiration and motivation, all of which I cannot teach or give you.

When starting a blog there are some basic steps you have to grasp before the actual act of blogging can be initiated. These steps include buying a domain, finding hosting and installing a blogging content management system (CMS) normally Wordpress. Here is where the Take a step at the time comes in. Before thinking about how the Adsense ads will look and if you can squeeze more banners into the crammed sidebar, take the time to create a unique, visually stimulating blog. Did you know it only takes people a blink of an eye to formulate a complete opinion about your site?

The first aspect any blogger should insure is that the blog they are creating is visually appealing and most importantly, well organized. Think about things like, comment display, Avatars next to comments, clean sidebars, ease of use, font characteristics, images and layout colors, just to name a few. Also take the time to research other blogs and see how they organize their site and only then should you think about blogging.

If you take this first step seriously all the others that follow will become easier and more rewarding. If you have a blog and know that it requires some work, please tackle this problem first. I guarantee that the results will present themselves shortly after.
