Selling ice to Eskimos is a tricky business
2 Comments Published December 3rd, 2007 in Articles, Blogging, marketing
This article is the third step in the Understand the principals series which is intended to cover a few basic rules to healthier blogging. A few years ago a wise old man told me that “selling ice to Eskimos is a tricky business”. Back then I didn’t even know why Eskimos would ever want buy ice but today I finally understood what he was desperately trying to tell me.
If you take a closer look at many of the blogs on the internet you will undoubtedly find a wealth of useless information that has been regurgitated and plagiarized to the extent of complete suffocation. Many of these self proclaimed Internet gurus, marketing experts and dodgy political analysts, find it in their right to publish such fascinating articles neglecting the sanity of any reader. With little knowledge of the topics in hand, most times the end result is a mixed contradicting mash of idiotic opinions that would compel a kindergarten (nursery school) teacher to cry with dismay. Please, do not be one of these bloggers.
Trying to sell ice to an Eskimo is the same as attempting to teach an English University lecturer how to read the ABCs of the English alphabet. The same goes for internet gurus, marketing experts and political analysts, just to name a few. There is no shame in starting an active blog as a learning tool, but dishing out concise information on a subject you do not dominate is asking for trouble.
The advice I would like to give today is very simple and easy to follow. Stick to what you know and don’t try following the steps of other bloggers, especially if you don’t possess a good grasp of the topics covered. Be yourself, transform your knowledge into words to create something truly unique that will be looked upon with respect and admiration.
World of Warcraft (WOW) has grown to be an online phenomenon with more than 8.5 million players from all around the world. The game was released on November 23, 2004 and is currently the world’s largest Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) in terms of monthly subscribers.
With thousands of players logged on at any given time, Wow could be considered a small nation with a considerable thriving economy. Unfortunately creating a new character can be challenging seeing as there are many scrupulous players that take advantage of new inexperienced gamers. There are other alternatives like purchasing WOW accounts which has become quite a common practice for many players. Many sites also offer WOW Gold for sale that can be used to purchase a wide range of in-game items through the auction house. Using these services saves a lot of time and also permits a gamer to gain those much sought after items that in other circumstances would be impossible to acquire.
If you are a WOW fan struggling to level you might want to give one of these sites a try. Remember that MMORPG like WOW are meant to be fun so start receiving those rare items and kick some ass.
A few rules for Pay per Post bloggers

Yesterday I wrote a post titled The Google pay per post attack has commenced which covered the recent attack by the infamous Google on many innocent hard working bloggers. After having the opportunity to analyze the matter further, I notice that the attack was more widespread and affected a big chunk of the blogging community. For this reason I decided to sketch up a few simple rules that will help you keep making money while maintaining the blog’s Page Rank.
Don’t advertise
Remember when you first started using PPP and out of delight wrote an amazing post describing how extremely cool the service was. If you did, I advise that you go back to that same post and deleted it. Actually, delete any post that makes reference to any PPP service.
This is a sponsored review
Making it clear that a certain post is a sponsored review or anything in those lines is an excellent way to lose your PR. Google thanks your honesty.
Big colorful banners
This is my favorite. Not only do those banners look really stupid but they also make it extremely easy for Google to know you’re offering Paid Posts. If you still have these on your blog do us all a big favor, remove them.
Links
This is so obvious that it doesn’t even need to be here but still, you never know. Remove those stupid promotional links from footer, sidebar, posts, header, comments, images and whatever else contains a direct link to any PPP service.
I hope the tips above will help stay clear of the big G radar. Furthermore I’ve taken the liberty of adding two extremity functional tools, here and here, that are sure going to help put Google on its toes.

The Google pay per post attack has commenced
6 Comments Published November 30th, 2007 in Adsense, Affiliate Programs, Blogging, marketing
The war is on and the casualties have already started to surface. The promises from Google involving the controversial Pay Per Post (PPP) services wasn’t taken seriously by many webmasters but I guess that’s what you get when you step on the toes of a giant.
Black Thursday (29 November 2007) saw the first blow inflicted without mercy and from conducting a few searches it looks like many sites were hit hard. Even one of our own blogs went from a 1 year old PR4 to zero. Although Google claims that these measures are being introduced to combat spam and link buying, the truth is another story all together.
Never in the history of the civilized internet has there been such a decentralized, liberated and just advertising market which rewarded not only the big corporations, but also the small blogger that slaves in front of a computer screen to produce the much loved posts. Advertisers benefited from affordable prices, publishers earned a sustainable revenue stream and the community enjoyed the same quality content they had become accustomed to.
Obviously Google had to interfere especially since they stand to lose millions from lost revenue to their Adsense program. You see, many advertisers started to notice that it was not only cheaper but more beneficial for them to use other marketing strategies instead of the standard, boring text ads. Now they could target a specific community, great buzz around their product or site and draw visitors, something that can’t be achieved with Adsense. The internet advertising powerhouse became obsolete and everyone knew it.
Google isn’t going after PPP services because they are prone to abuse. What they are doing is protecting their core Advertising business and using the already dominated search market to achieve the goals set out. I guess the big docile giant has finally woken up, now lest see how truly friendly it is.

Most People know more about blogging than you do
1 Comment Published November 30th, 2007 in Articles, Blogging, marketing
Yesterday we kicked off the Understand the principals series with the very cool Take a step post at a time post. Today is another day and the perfect time to discuss the next step titled Most People know more about blogging than you do.
If there is one rule you should understand right from the beginning that is, Most People know more about blogging than you do, so think twice before trying to outsmart someone. Blogging has evolved a lot over the years and many of the current bloggers not only contributed to this evolution but have also been around longer than you. Trying to pull a fast one not only will make you look like a complete idiot as it will also contribute towards the creation of some negative reputation.
Now we’ll get to the positive side of things. Since these bloggers have been around for a few years or months at best, they do represent a good source of much needed inspiration. Look at their writing style and discover what makes them stick out of the crowd. Why do people visit these blogs? Why do they have so many comments? Why are readers participating? The list goes on. When you answer these questions, avoiding common beginner mistakes will be fairly easy. The end result will be a better blog, fairly polished, ready in half the time it would take if you had to learn everything from the beginning.
Please understand that I’m not asking or telling you to duplicate any existing blog. You can get inspiration from a gardening blog and import it to an Auto blog because all you are really doing is gathering ideas, not steeling content. Learn from other people and their mistakes.

This is the first topic on the Understand the principals series which I introduced yesterday. Stay well alert and you might just learn a few tricks that took me years to figure out. The first topic is Take a step at the time.
When you first started blogging I’m sure you were in same way motivated by all the so called A list bloggers and their somewhat controversial success stories. For the first time, anyone with an internet connection and some free time could achieve stardom and riches while sitting in front of the computer. Although this does contain some truth, in reality most of it is fiction. Currently it is thought to exist some 100 million active blogs on the internet and out of all of those only a handful made it to the so called A list.
If you’re still motivated and want to give it a shot, please be my guest, but remember that it won’t be easy. Please understand that I can teach you how to make money with your blog although becoming an A list blogger is all up to you. The reason for this is that for a blog to reach such status you have to have some basic skills like, good written capabilities, creativity, inspiration and motivation, all of which I cannot teach or give you.
When starting a blog there are some basic steps you have to grasp before the actual act of blogging can be initiated. These steps include buying a domain, finding hosting and installing a blogging content management system (CMS) normally Wordpress. Here is where the Take a step at the time comes in. Before thinking about how the Adsense ads will look and if you can squeeze more banners into the crammed sidebar, take the time to create a unique, visually stimulating blog. Did you know it only takes people a blink of an eye to formulate a complete opinion about your site?
The first aspect any blogger should insure is that the blog they are creating is visually appealing and most importantly, well organized. Think about things like, comment display, Avatars next to comments, clean sidebars, ease of use, font characteristics, images and layout colors, just to name a few. Also take the time to research other blogs and see how they organize their site and only then should you think about blogging.
If you take this first step seriously all the others that follow will become easier and more rewarding. If you have a blog and know that it requires some work, please tackle this problem first. I guarantee that the results will present themselves shortly after.

Everything in this world has a beginning and in many cases an ending too. When I started blogging, about two years ago, there was no way that I could possibly imagine the tasks that lay ahead.
Before I start writing endless lines of boring notes, tips and odd tricks I would like to say one thing. There is a considerable amount of money to be made by blogging, the hard part is learning the process behind the success. I make a considerable amount of money on the web and the one thing I’ve learnt over this time is that all the information I ever needed to acquire was obtainable free of charge on the internet. Buy all the eBooks your heart desires, everything is free if you take the time to search.
Now to for the endless lines of boring information. Don’t worry, I ‘m not one to right sermons so this won’t take long. The title of this post is Understand the principals. This basically means that you should understand the core of blogging before rushing in to all the other useless substance, like making money or adding the hideous banner ads to the sidebar. Know where you stand and learn the few bases that are required to achieving a successful blog.
To make things easier I’ve listed a few points I think you should take into consideration.
1 – Take a step at a time
2 – Most People know more about blogging than you do
3 – Selling ice to Eskimos is a tricky business
4 – Banner ads suck
5 – Adsense won’t make you rich
6 – Success is in love with success
7 – Stay on the ball
8 – Sexy sells
9 – Expand
10 – Hakuna matata
I know these short titles sound extremely vague and somewhat unrelated but trust me, there is a fine line uniting them all. During the next few days I’m going to explain in detail each of these steps and hopefully when we get to number 10 you would have gained all the tools needed to make it big on the blogosphere.
