Most People know more about blogging than you do
Published November 30th, 2007 in Articles, Blogging, marketing
Yesterday we kicked off the Understand the principals series with the very cool Take a step post at a time post. Today is another day and the perfect time to discuss the next step titled Most People know more about blogging than you do.
If there is one rule you should understand right from the beginning that is, Most People know more about blogging than you do, so think twice before trying to outsmart someone. Blogging has evolved a lot over the years and many of the current bloggers not only contributed to this evolution but have also been around longer than you. Trying to pull a fast one not only will make you look like a complete idiot as it will also contribute towards the creation of some negative reputation.
Now we’ll get to the positive side of things. Since these bloggers have been around for a few years or months at best, they do represent a good source of much needed inspiration. Look at their writing style and discover what makes them stick out of the crowd. Why do people visit these blogs? Why do they have so many comments? Why are readers participating? The list goes on. When you answer these questions, avoiding common beginner mistakes will be fairly easy. The end result will be a better blog, fairly polished, ready in half the time it would take if you had to learn everything from the beginning.
Please understand that I’m not asking or telling you to duplicate any existing blog. You can get inspiration from a gardening blog and import it to an Auto blog because all you are really doing is gathering ideas, not steeling content. Learn from other people and their mistakes.
