We recently reviewed the results of a paid article submission to iSnare and the search engine results for the article after 10 days. As part of our article marketing strategy test we have also made a case study of an article submitted via the free article submission website EzineArticles. Here we will investigate the results in the various search engines for the articles title (searched for enclosed in quotes) 10 days after the article was accepted by Ezine Articles. We have checked for instances of the article title in the major search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN, taking a screenshot of each to analyse during our article submission case study. An excellent feature of EzineArticle’s service is that Authors get detailed statistics about their articles in the Author control panel area of the site. You can see how many times your article was viewed on the site, how many times your links were clicked, and other information regarding the distribution of your articles. The statistics available to Authors on iSnare are much more basic and just indicate the number of times your article has been viewed on iSnare.com.Google 10 day Results for EzineArticles Submission Case Study

EzineArticles Submission Results in Google Serps

10 days after the Free submission of the article to EzineArticles.com our article is showing 147 results for the specific article title searched for enclosed in quotes. This is less Google results than the iSnare article distribution case study had in Google’s serp’s after 10 days, but still a good result for a Free article service. The article submitted to EzineArticles was related to the ‘Bollywood Stars’ niche so any sites related to Bollywood, Movies, Actors, Television or a similar niche should be helpful. The first results shown in Google are for the article page on EzineArticles.com which is to be expected, then follows some sites related to the niche of the article. Some of the sites that have republished the article are ‘Bestdesi’ website, a television related site, a blog search engine type site and some other sites related to the general niche of the article. Unlike the iSnare article distribution this submission has not ended up with many other general article directory sites picking up the article after a period of 10 days. So the sites have republished the article are mainly related to the subject niche of the article. Most of the sites seem to have republished the article complete with the Author Resource Box intact and our links live, although one site shown was clearly a sblog (spam web log site) which typically didn’t provide any links back to our site. One site that we checked seems to have stripped out two of our links from the Author Bio Resource Box but left one of our links live with anchor text, so at least we still have one back link from that site. The Google Page Rank of the homepage’s of two of the sites that republished our article was PR2, one was PR3 and others didn’t have any Google PageRank. A couple of the sites shown in the Google results have only republished the title of the article and an excerpt of the article with a link back to the articles page on EzineArticles.com. Although the Google results show 147 results for the article title it seems that after search engine results page 4 many of the results are duplicates of domains such as ezinearticles.com with different url extensions.

MSN Results for Ezine Article Submission after 10 days

EzineArticles.com Article Submission MSN Search Results after 10 days

As with our paid article submission test MSN has shown the lowest results for the article title searched for enclosed in quotes with only 5 results coming up. But even compared to the MSN search results from the paid article submission case study which showed 90 results a measly 5 results does seem quite low. Out of the 5 results MSN has come up with, the first 4 are the same as Google showed, with 2 listings for ezinearticles.com and 2 listings for the ‘Bestdesi’ site related to the article niche. The 5th and last result on MSN’s search page is for a small search engine type site that seems to have indexed the article in some way. So this method of free article submission doesn’t seem to get indexed as well as iSnare submissions, not with MSN search engine anyway.

Results in Yahoo for EzineArticles.com Article Submission after 10 days

Yahoo Search Results for Ezine Articles 10 day Submission

For the title of our article searched for in Yahoo! (enclosed in quotes) the Yahoo search engine returned 670 results.

Again the first two results are for the actual articles page on EzineArticles and the ‘Bestdesi’ site that is related to the articles niche and has republished the article. Also listed in the first few results on Yahoo is the ‘Bestdesi’ sites RSS feed on the FeedBurner domain, indicating that the republished copy of our article has been included in the RSS feed of the ‘Bestdesi’ website. This should help gain readers for the article that was republished on their site, which in turn gives our Resource Author Bio Box more exposure to readers and potentially more click through’s on our website links in the Author Box. Showing 2 results for our article title search in Yahoo is the splog site that was also noted in the Google search results that removed our Author Resource Box and links when they republished our article. In a similar manner to Google’s results after the first couple of results pages Yahoo mainly just shows duplicate urls from ezinearticles.com domain. So although Yahoo initially shows 670 instances of the article title in this search the majority of those results are from ezinearticles.com with different url extensions. As well as the ‘Bestdesi’ related site that all search engines listed for our article title Yahoo shows one of the movie related sites that Google also found. This movie niche site is related to the article subject and has republished our article with our live links and the full Author Resource Box intact, we also checked the source code and can confirm our links on this site are not nofollow links.EzineArticles.com Free Submission Compared to Paid Article Distribution

For a free article service our article was indexed on EzineArticles site quickly in all the search engines we checked, namely MSN, Yahoo and Google. Although Yahoo showed 670 results for our specific article title most of those results were duplicates of ezinearticles.com domain with differing url extensions and url queries. Compared to the paid Article Distribution via iSnare it seems that the Free Submission Article has not been picked up by any other article directory type sites. This is probably due to the fact that iSnare’s paid distribution service blast’s articles to thousands of other article directories and websites. Whereas EzineArticles doesn’t seem to distribute articles to many other sites as aggressively, although articles do get included in EzineArticles RSS feeds that many publishers and other sites use for article content.

EzineArticles.com Author Manager Statistics Panel is very useful as it shows statistics relevant to your articles distribution.
Ezine Articles Author Manager Statistics Control Panel
The statistics in our Author Control Panel showed the article had been viewed on EzineArticles site 53 times, the ‘EzinePublisher’ button had been clicked 2 times and our links in the article had been clicked 4 times. We have explained EzineArticles Author Statistics and how to understand them previously and feel they are an excellent feature supplied by this free article submission site. Although the EzineArticles statistics only show that our links were clicked 4 times from the article page AWStats for our site showed 12 clickthroughs from ezinearticles.com url’s. Traffic statistics to the site that was linked to from the article did not show any noticeable increase over the last 10 days. It may be that free article submission services distribute articles at a slower rate than paid services such as iSnare. Although even in the short space of 10 days from article approval a few websites related to the article’s niche have republished the article and our Author Resource Bio Box with live links. So for free ezinearticles.com service gets your article indexed in the serp’s and provides some valuable backlinks related to your niche. In conclusion if you can afford the $2 distribution fee that iSnare charges your article will be spread more widely at a faster rate, but for a free service EzineArticles is definitely worth including in your article marketing strategy.

I am not sure what your experiment means…the data is not very relevant for me.
A real test would be to use 2 different articles and measure how much traffic and how much it helped ranking for 2 different keywords. I don’t know if you know this, but more than 80-90% of the articles submitted to an article directory will get in the supplemental index and carry no link power over time.
So I suggest you to submit only to a few big directories and shoot a few links at each article to keep the article in the main index and pass some power to your links.
    Cheers,

It appears that the best way to go about this is to add it to EzineArticles first, and then hit iSnare with your article. Correct?

I think the power in article marketing is in the traffic it drives as well as the backlinks. The articles may end up in the supps. But you only need one big site with tens of thousands of visitors a day to pick up your article and use it on their site as content with your author bio box to drive large amounts of visitors to your author box links daily.
‘ shoot a few links at each article ‘
This is a good idea, linking to your article on the main article directories site with a few backlinks is always good to keep your article alive on the directory site. Therefore giving your article more chance of being found by publishers looking for that type of content within article directories.

Good information, I’ll be using iSnare for my needs from now on because my own studies have had similar results but for a free service Ezine is still the king. Ezine articles will outrank others based on their own merit, but the distribution web is much larger with iSnare.
