Tips on Choosing the Best Web Host
Published February 7th, 2008 in General, Reviews
Before you launch your website you should choose a suitable Web hosting company. We have previously discussed the merits of paid hosting services over free web hosts, but you still have a massive choice amongst the various paid hosting service providers. As your online presence grows you start to realise how much having a reliable Web hosting service really matters to your website and ultimately your online business.
There are many hosting companies offering quality services. However, you have to decide what you want from a web host.
Write a short list of the following questions for yourself:
- What is uptime of the web host you choose?
Really, no one hosting company offers you 100% uptime, but 99.9% uptime is possible. - How long has the hosting company been in this business? If that company is in this business only 1-2 years, I would not recommend such young companies to you. I prefer host companies which are placed in the USA or UK.
Trust me, they care for their clients much more and have more powerful tech support than ones in other countries. - What is your website going to do? How many pages will it contain? Will there be graphic pages, dynamic pages or HTML ones only?
- How much storage does your site need?
Actually, don’t purchase less than 200GB storage for your website. - Can the web host work with different programming languages such as Perl, Python, and PHP etc? In other words, what script language support does that hosting company have?
- The Host has to have a good support.
If you cannot find any contact information on the host’s website or there is only an e-mail contact, you should avoid that host.
Really serious hosting companies provide phone, e-mail and/or ticket support.
Every one of these supports has to be quick, phone support must be 24 hours and 7 days a week for you to feel confident. Make sure, you will get a fast e-mail response on your question to resolve your problem. Generally it should just take a few hours; however, it can take upto 12 hours in some cases. - How much should you spend on your hosting?
You shouldn’t buy a cheaper host, say, for $1.95 a month. Because there’s a risk you will spend your money and will get a pretty bad service in return.
So, focus on hosting companies selling their service per $4.95-$7.95 a month. Don’t look at any hosting offers lower than $4.95 and in the other direction don’t pay much over $7.95 per. month either.
I hope this short guide has been a help you to choosing a web host for your site.
Anyway I can recommend checking out this quality web hosting provider.

Great post covering the importance of evaluating your needs prior to buying. I think that flexible language and package availability is really helpful. The only thing that I didn’t look at was the speed of my current service before buying.
